Best DIY Halloween Decorations Indoor
DIY Halloween Decorations Indoor – Coat Rack and Corner of Entryway Near the Front Door.
Broom docking station – This is so fun to create. You can do this in so many different creative ways. I made some DIY witches brooms. Hanging up a sign about parking brooms here or at home is where you park your broom, is fun.
Making witches’ brooms can be a fun family project. Everyone can make their own broomsticks.
First, go on a walk with your kids and look around your own yard or neighborhood. Find some fallen tree branches that can work for your broom.
However, if you can’t find tree branches to use then go and buy a cheap broom. You can twist off the end and make your own broom bottom. Spray painting your broomstick brown or taping it with brown duct tape can make a silver broomstick look more real.
Listed down below are the broomsticks we made. We had a great time making and customizing our own broomsticks in many different ways.
- Branch with smaller branches for the bottom of the broomstick. Use jute or brown duct tape to secure the smaller branches to the big ones. If you find a good branch with a y shape that works really well to help keep a wide end base.
- Branch with decorative mesh tubes. That turns out really cute. You cut strands of the mesh tubes all at the same length. Attaching it with jute or duct tape works well.
- Broomsticks wrapped in duct tape and then decorative glitter floral sticks make quite a dazzling look. These are super cute and sparkly. First, wrap your broomstick with brown duct tape. Next, you will use brown duct tape or jute to attach your floral sticks to the end of the broomstick. I used black and gold floral sticks, but you can use different colors if you want.
- Broomstick made from plants in your yard. We have these plants that are like palm tree plants and the stalks are kind of like bamboo. If you have plants like this, they can work really well. Lay them out flat and let them dry for a few days. I then used a jute cord to bind the stalks together. I did this in several places up and down the stalks. The bottom part with the leaves looked really cool for the bottom of your homemade broom.
On the other hand, you could buy a corn broom at the store and use it. You could even spruce it up and make it your own. Similarly, I found a small kid witch’s broom at the Dollar Tree. You could use it as is or spruce it up as well.
Capes and Hats – Adding witches’ capes and witch hats to your coat rack is a great place to decorate also.
Diy Halloween Decorations Indoor – Entry Table
Apothecary Cabinet – I found this small wooden cabinet at a thrift shop. If you find some type of cabinet, you could use that’s great. Subsequently, you could give a try at making one with wood or cardboard boxes.
Spray paint it if needed and decorate it with mini battery-operated lights and spider webs, Spanish moss, or some type of cool spiky garland like what I used. I found a cool apothecary sign from Dollar Tree that I placed on top of the cabinet.
Apothecary Bottles – Apothecary bottle Halloween decoration ideas are so fun to do with your family. Black spray paint or black paint is great to use on your mason jars, plastic containers, or any glass jars or bottles you have.
Wine bottles or soda bottles turn out really good painted black. Wine corks are great to use even in soda bottles if you cut them some. Green soda or beer bottles look really cool as well.
Print out apothecary labels that you can cut out and use a glue stick to apply them to your bottle or container.
Adding fake plastic bugs, eyeballs, small bones, or other items to or in your bottles is fun.
I found some Harry Potter stickers that would work out great if you wanted that type of wizard theme.
Creepy Container – I used a protein powder container that was white. First, I drew some creepy hands on paper cut them out ,and taped them to the container with double-sided tape. Next, we spray-painted it black. You have to be extra careful not to get the paint under your paper hand. When it’s dry take off your taped hand.
Spell Books – These books are so much fun to make, and we have several great ideas to share with you. I found some fake books at the Dollar Tree and then bought some books at a thrift shop. I used the hardback books from the thrift shop to create a fun look on the cover.
- Eyeball Book – First, use a hot glue gun and glue a big creepy eyeball on the cover. You can find them at the Dollar Tree. Glue on some typed-out words for your book also. Then you can make some squiggly lines with hot glue all around it. After that using red or black paint to paint on the dried hot glue gives it a spooky look.
- Skeleton Head Book – Another fun book to make is the one where I used a small plastic skull basket and cut it into half. I glued the front half of the skull onto the book. You could leave it as is or add some crinkled-up black paper to the top for hair. Last but not least, I then added a free book printable to the cover giving it a label.
- Spell Book – Using a plate display stand I showcased a hard-cover book with some spell pages glued into the book. Find free printables online and glue them to your pages in the book. It would be fun for you to watch Hocus Pocus with your kids and then make this item along with all your apothecary items. It would create some added fun when they have a movie for reference and some fun when making the items.
Ghosts under the entry table – These are in my yard ghosts diy post also. I thought they looked cute under my entry table. I also made some extra ones to drape over the big glass jars under my table. To make these you need balloon sticks with a plastic base, a small white balloon or small styrofoam balls, quilt batting, and black facial features.
DIY Halloween Decorations Indoor – Another Entry Table
Black spider web table runner – This cute table runner was found at Dollar Tree. It is a lace spider web runner that looks more expensive than it was and adds that perfect look to the end table. Moreover, if you wanted to go extra simple, you could have this with only a few items, and it would look great.
Picture on Wall – Look at thrift shops and find a painting of a tree. If you can’t find one, try creating your own. A black creepy tree can be easy to paint.
This one is probably a coral picture and not a tree, but I thought it gave off a creepy tree look. I then used black paint to give it a 3D look. If you find a painting of a black cat, a haunted house (or one that you can make it look haunted) or anything else that would look great for Halloween then get it and get creative.
Picture frames – If you have old picture frames lying around the house this can be a fun family project. We had some extras we had and spray-painted them black.
Next, we printed off some creepy Halloween Characters and put them into the frames. It’s cool to print them off in black and white then go in and color a few things to stand out like I did in the balloon. I plan to go back and color Freddy’s shirt.
We also wanted a frame with some witch sisters, so we printed out black witch silhouettes. And you can’t have Halloween without Frankenstein and Dracula.
Owl Statue – I don’t know about you but when I think of witches and Halloween things I think of owls. I found this owl statue at the thrift shop. He looks creepy I thought. As I always say, you never know what you may find at a thrift shop.
Tree – This tree was a decoration my daughter had in her room, so we used it in our display. Look around your house and use objects you already have. We then added some cute dollar tree signs.
Books – Go thrift shopping and see what kind of books you can find. We had a lot of fun going through books and finding titles that seemed Halloween-ish, spooky, or something that would fit in this category.
It was a lot of family fun time searching and finding fun books, especially with everyone’s different humor. If you didn’t already guess I added the Dare to Disciple book as I found a little parenting humor with that title.
If you have really little ones at home let them, find some kid Halloween books, and add them to your display. Reading is so important for kids and this might even encourage and excite them a little by reading the ones you have on display. Holiday reading is fun for everyone so encourage reading Halloween books throughout this season.
Game as Decoration – This game Pick Your Poison was given to me by my daughter. We haven’t played it yet but thought it would be fun to have it in our display. I can’t wait to play this with my family.
Candle Stand and Candle – I found the cute snake-wrapped candle stand at the Dollar Tree. I then added some bleeding candles that I found at Walmart. The bleeding candles are a big hit. They look so creepy with the red wax melting down over the white candles.
Painted Trophy Stand – We used a trophy stand that was going to be donated as my kids didn’t want it anymore. So, we spray-painted it black and put a black crow on the top. Look around your house for things you are planning to get rid of. As a result, it might just turn out to be a great Halloween display piece. All you need to do is paint it or add some decorations.
Hanging Skeletons – To top this fun entry table off we added two hanging skeletons we got from Dollar Tree, in front of the table.
DIY Halloween Decorations Indoor – Living Room Coffee Table
A Wooden Bowl With Skeleton Heads – The best thing about this decoration is that it’s super simple. All you need is some type of display basket like what I have seen in the picture. And some cheap plastic skulls from the dollar tree. I already had the wooden bowl, so it was super cheap and easy to put skulls in for a fun look.
DIY Halloween Decorations Indoor – Fireplace
Ghosts – I made these for the front porch as outdoor decorations but loved how it looked inside by the fireplace. They are made with white plastic tablecloths or could be used with white plastic bags. A paper lantern and some black material to make the facial features. They look really cool when lit up also.
Creepy Cloth – Adding creepy cloth gave the perfect look across the mantle. Put a few plastic spiders in the creepy cloth. If you are going extremely simple, then this alone with some spiders would work. Similarly, you could even have the creepy cloth on top of the mantel instead of strung across it.
Spiders – These are some easy Halloween crafts. Adding plastic or paper spiders to any decoration display can be fun. Make your own with black construction paper spiders or buy them at the store. Making ping pong ball spiders is fun for kids and is an easy craft. If making them you need ping-pong balls, black marker, some type of craft glue, googly eyes, and black pipe cleaners. Using hot glue is easier so the pipe cleaner legs will stay on faster. But if young kids are making them then the process may take a little longer with a glue stick.
Mantle Accessories – You can find many creepy or fun accessories to make your mantle perfect. I used two ceramic vases that I turned over and put a rat and a black crow on. I added some of my apothecary bottles and a candle with red bloody wax dripped down for a fake blood look for scary decor.
You really don’t have to move all the items off your mantle to decorate for seasons. You can incorporate them into your look like I did by turning the vases over.
DIY Halloween Decorations Indoor – Stand or Small Table in Living Room
Ghost in Cage – Look for a wire basket or some type of cage at a thrift shop. I found this black wire basket and broke off the handles. When this basket is flipped over it resembles a cage. I found a cheap dollar tree skeleton and placed it inside. For an added look I found a small bottle at the dollar tree that I put a label on it saying “poison”.
However, if you want to use an big old animal or bird cage you could use that on your front porch or incorporate in your yard decorations with a bigger skeleton.
DIY Halloween Decorations Indoor – Living Room Ceiling Fan Or Bedroom Ceiling Fan
Bat Mobile – A bat mobile is a cute and fun decoration for Halloween. This is also a great one for kids to make. You can hang it anywhere you have a spot for it. It is fun to be in an area where the air can really move it.
First, you need to make and cut out some bats or go the easy route and buy them. Second, you need to think about what you will hang the bats from. I used two round wire wreath circles that I tied together. Next, I used fishing line to tie the bats to the mobile. As a result, it turned out super cute, especially with the air making them fly around.

Soap Holder – This soap holder is from Bath and Body Works. I loved how the bottles of soap fit right into the hand and gave my bathroom just a little bit of Halloween fun. I don’t know about you, but I just love their hand soap!
Wall fragrance Plug-in – This is another item I have splurged on. Along with the hand soap Bath and Body Works sell I love their fragrance bulbs. These are super cute and along with the hand soap holder, these plug-ins really can spice up your bathroom for Halloween.
Along with giving it a nice smell. They have many different styles each year. I have collected a few now to put in different rooms.

I LOVE these ideas! We will be trying a few of these, definitely. I really like the apothecary table with all the tiny bottles – but I might need to wait until our youngest is a bit less grabby before we try that one! This is a really useful post, thank you
