Fun Patriotic Wood Star Garland: Great for 4th of July

Patriotic wood star garland is perfect for celebrating the 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Veteran’s Day.  Change it up and it can be used for other holidays.

How To Make Patriotic Wood Star Garland

1.  Paint or color your wooden stars with spray paint, markers, colors, or paint, and let them dry well.

• The best medium to use will be determined by how you want them to look and if kids are making these.

2.  You can choose to paint your wooden beads or leave them their natural color.  

• Red, white, or blue wooden beads would be great for patriotic decor.  

3.  Drill a hole in two of the tips of the star as seen in the picture.  

• Be sure to have your star secured in a position that you can drill straight through the wood without drilling into another object.  Same advice if using a hammer and nail.
• Or skip this step if just hot gluing onto the jute.

4.  Cut a piece of jute, yarn, or string to the desired length where you will be hanging it.

• As an extra tip, I always make the string a little longer so that it never ends up too short for what I want it for, and plenty of room to tie loops at the ends.

5.  Thread on a wooden star.

•  How you thread the string/jute through the stars will either show the string in the front of the star or have it hidden behind it.  As you see in the picture I thread it so the string is going behind the star.

6.  Thread on a wooden bead.

7.  Take a pipe cleaner and cut it in half.

8.  Next, you will use a pencil and wrap the cut pipe cleaner around it. 

• Pull the pipe cleaner off and it will give you a cute zigzag pattern.  Stretch it out a little.

9.  Then twist the pipe cleaner onto the jute after that wooden bead.

10.  Next, add a wood bead and then repeat the steps.  Star – Bead- Pipe Cleaner – Bead – Star and so on.  

• This is a great craft for kids to do.  They will be working on their fine motor skills and also following a pattern.  Ask your child if they can figure out the pattern from the picture and then let them create it.

11.  Once all the beads, stars, and pipe cleaners are on the jute, tie the jute to make a loop at both ends for hanging. 

12.  Now hang or place your newly made garland. 

Here are the supplies you will need to make this patriotic wood star garland

• Wooden stars – same or multi-size
• Drill – This garland requires the use of a drill to make the necessary holes. If you don’t have access to a drill, you could try using a hammer and a wide nail instead, or you could simply use hot glue to attach the wooden stars to the jute.  Your other option is to buy wooden stars with holes but that might be a pricier option or hard to find.
• Paint and paintbrush, spray paint, markers, or crayons.  Red, white & blue colors for patriotic celebrations.
• Jute cord, yarn, or string
• Wood beads – with a wide enough hole for your string
• Pipe cleaners – Also known as fuzzy sticks or chenille stims.  You need a few depending on the amount you want to add.
• Glue gun and glue sticks – optional, but use If not drilling holes
• Scissors
• Pencil – to curl the pipe cleaners

Now you have your patriotic garland to hang during your party or anywhere around your house for some added patriotic spirit.
